About a week ago my doctor's office called and informed me that I needed to come in to talk about an abnormality they'd found in some blood work they'd done. For some reason, I thought they were referring to my kidneys, and that they were going to tell me that I need to eat healthier and exercise more because my kidneys are on the verge of failing.
I am very happy to say that is not the case. What they were actually talking about was liver function. Apparently I very likely have a fatty deposit on my liver which is causing a slight elevation in whatever it is they look for to measure liver function. It turns out to be a fairly common condition, in fact, my doctor said that probably 5 out of every 20 patients she sees in a day have the same issue.
So I'm not terribly worried about it, although it did serve as a bit of a wake up call. I don't exactly have the best eating habits, so for something like this to happen doesn't really surprise me all that much. I managed to survive college on a diet that consisted largely of fast food and watever was cheapest at the grocery store. It finally caught up with me.
So I'm trying to at least pay more attention to the kinds of foods I put in my body. I'm walking more regularly, and trying to make a few positive changes in the way I go about the business of living.
After all, I want to be there for my baby's first steps, graduation, and wedding.
